Cool Capture: Morning Stretch

Another one of my Instagram photos was chosen through GeekSugar's Cool Capture group. I love this one because it's of Lamont. I think he's homeless, although I can't be totally certain. Clancy and I walk 1 1/2 blocks most week mornings and see Lamont working out, stretching or praying in this same spot each week along the park/cliffs in Santa Monica.

We are on first name basis at this point and he always welcomes us with a wave, a smile and a warm hello.

COOL CAPTURE: BAAAH!

During my trip to Ireland last week, I was leaving a great walk at Lough Key and saw a big crowd of sheep while heading back to Carrick-on-Shannon. I'm used to seeing sheep roaming about in a wide open space, but something about this caught my eye.

I did a quick U-turn, even though two of the passengers were on a tight schedule and needed to get dropped off at the train station, as I knew it was something that I wanted to photograph. It was feeding time for these sheep which gave me a great perspective of all their colorful markings while they feasted on some hay.

And as an added bonus, this photo was chosen on 1/4/2013 on GeekSugar's Cool Capture feature.

Cool Captures of 2012: THE BEST 2012 PHOTOS

One of my photos (taken in Ireland in October and blogged about on 10/22) was chosen as one of the favorite Instagram photos tagged with the #CoolCapture hashtag. There was a year-end round-up and I was pleasantly surprised to see my photo included . It's a huge honor considering there were thousands of photos submitted to the CoolCapture community in 2012.

Cool Capture: Mother Nature

While thumbing through GeekSuper one night when I couldn't sleep last week, I saw another feature from the Cool Capture group. This one is from a walk I took about a week and a half ago on the grounds of Coopershill House. I love the lighting, the mood and Alice the dog who took me for a walk!

Cool Capture: Nautical by Nature

Last month I took a glorious week-long vacation to Maine where I got to spend quality time with my niece, my sister, her husband and his parents. I got to catch up with some friends I spend all year long missing and reconnect with another friend I lost touch with many years ago.

I read a few really great books (highly recommend The Fault in our Stars and The Language of Flowers), took a lot of photos and completely disconnected from work. It was as relaxing and restorative as it sounds.

Thanks to GeekSugar for another feature of an Instagram photo I took and tagged with #coolcapture. I took this photo on August 10th while waiting for dinner in Cape Neddick, Maine. The 55-minute wait was more than tolerable when this was our view:

We used the time wisely taking photos as the sun set, but this was one of my favorites with the lobster traps, the pretty sky, the reflection of the house and trees in the water and the buoys. It was a beautiful night and a memorable wait and I'm grateful for the feature through GeekSugar.

Cool Capture: Happy Trails

Just over a week ago, I wrote about Cool Capture for the first time when I discovered that an Instagram photo of mine had been chosen for GeekSugar's Cool Capture photo community and posted on Twitter and their website.

Once was cool enough.

But today while sitting in traffic heading home (I wasn't driving- I swear!), I was looking through GeekSugar again and found another photo of mine selected for Cool Capture
I took this picture on a Friday evening hike with The Twin. It's one of her favorite places in LA and somewhere she's been trying to get me to go to for years. Honestly. We skipped spin class last Friday and chose instead to enjoy the outdoors with Clancy. What you see off in the horizon is the Pacific Ocean. and the up and down and rolling of the trail is exactly what the rest of the trail was like. We hiked for an hour and a half and when we came back, you couldn't even see the ocean because it was covered in a blanket of clouds.

If you're an Instagram user, don't forget to use the hashtag #coolcapture and you may find one of your photos featured as well! As much as I wish they'd give you a heads up that they're going to feature one of your photos, it's been a fun and expected surprise both times I've come across my photo.

Cool Capture: Beach Days

One of the apps I have on my iPhone is for PopSugar, which is not just a celebrity gossip site, but the mobile version acts as a main portal into a bunch of their other sister sites, like GeekSugar. Sometimes when I can't sleep and I have my iPhone in bed, I'll look through some of these different sites.

Months and months ago I learned about Cool Capture, which is described on their site as "Show off your photography skills with our community. Tell us a little bit about your subject, the kind of camera you used, and any fun details or editing techniques you tried. Your photos could even be seen on the front page of GeekSugar!

Since then, I've been tagging my Instagram photos with the #coolcapture hashtag and last night while willing myself to fall asleep, I saw a photo that looked familiar. It took a minute before I realized that it was my photo taken of the Santa Monica Pier a few weeks ago. The photos is below and the link to the highlight can be found here
