A Story of Someone- 4/12

One of my very favorite Los Angeles books is the Secret Stairs: A Walking Guide to the Historic Staircases of Los Angeles. I stumbled upon it years ago and it has been such a great way to get to explore and learn more about the city I love. It's also helped me find all these nooks and crannies in Santa Monica- staircases tucked away into places I never would have imagined. When people come and visit me from out of town, I almost always try and take them on a stair walk. It's such a fun way to see the city!

Once a month there's an organized walk put on by the author of the book, Charles Flemming, and I haven't been able to go ever. Until today! My friend Leah is in town visiting from New Hampshire and so we hopped in Katie's car and zoomed over to Griffith Park where we joined today's stair walk. Unfortunately this particular walk was short on stairs (seriously, like less than 60!), but was a great experience all the same.

A highlight was getting to meet the author/leader of the organized walks, Charles. Here is a photo of him taken after our 4 1/2 mile walk around the golf course at Griffith Park, through the primate cages at the size of the Old Los Angeles Zoo (operated from 1912 - 1965). Charles is coming out with a second book and I can't wait to do more exploring!
