Belfast…I’m not Sure how I Feel About Ye

Belfast was annoying for a few reasons:
1. We lost an f’n hub cap and bent the tire rim. (And by we, I really mean only McKenz.)
2. We got not one, but two freaking parking tickets.
3. Katie almost lost the keys to the car thereby almost leaving us stranded in Belfast.
4. The city completely closes down and boards up all the shops by 9pm. It seems barren and deserted and it’s nearly impossible to find anywhere to eat after 9pm.
5. The weird guy Neil I spoke about yesterday.

But, Belfast was also pretty cool for another few reasons:
1. My friend and sometimes walking partner, Elise, told me to be on the lookout for her husband’s great great grandfather who was the mayor of Belfast and had a statue at City Hall. After taking pictures of every statue in City Hall, I finally remembered the name and got a picture of Robert James McMordie.
2. We took a ride on The Wheel of Belfast. Although I felt a little woozy riding around in it, the view was very cool and it was a fun experience.
3. The Belfast murals- lots of political stuff in there, including a bunch of jabs at George Bush, which is equally horrifying and fun to see.
At the end of the day, I do think I’d go back because we really didn’t have that much time there. I don’t feel as if I got any understanding of “The Troubles” and if I was to go back, I’d love to be able to take a closer look at the city and see just how it was affected by the division between the Protestants and the Catholics.
